Murphy, Judge Henry J., counsel, born Moncton, New Brunswick, February 9, 1921; deceased November 26, 2006; admitted to bar, 1944, New Brunswick.
Henry was educated at St. Thomas College in Chatham, N.B. and at the University of New Brunswick Law School, where he graduated first in his class. After serving in World War II, Judge Murphy served as a City of Moncton Alderman for a number of years before serving as a member of Parliament from 1953-58.
Prior to his appointment in 1960 to the New Brunswick Provincial Court he was a practicing Lawyer in Moncton. During his 34 years at that court he became head of the Provincial Court Association of New Brunswick and chair for the committee on Revision of Criminal Law.
While he served on the Bench, Judge Murphy also pursued his first love of Harness Racing and was the Chairman of the New Brunswick Harness Racing Commission. Judge Murphy was Counsel at the Law Firm of Murphy Collette Murphy. He enjoyed farming and was active in this pursuit until the time of his passing.
